ISO 23875 provides a solution to manage dust exposure risk for operators who work in equipment with cabs. In recent times (and rightly so) there has been a significant increase in the focus on (and legislation) related to the management of psychological health & safety risk. The Standard ISO 45003: Occupational health and safety management — Psychological health and safety at work — Guidelines for managing psychosocial risks, was released in June 2021. There are a number of psychosocial hazards that can impact individuals and the workplace culture. One hazard to be identified and assessed is poor physical environment relating to exposure to or a hazardous working environment. This can include hazards such as noise, vibration, gases and…… dusts!
This is one (of many) examples where ISO Standards complement each other. Through risk identification processes we can identify and understand these hazards and risks of dust exposure and use ISO Standards (in this case ISO 23875 for dust in cabs) to manage that exposure risk. In doing so we manage the health of the operator from the physical work environment hazard and contribute to managing one of the psychological health hazards.
